Housed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN, The Titan Supercomputer is already the word’s most powerful computing machine.  It’s about to get an upgrade though.  Titan will soon feature 1.4TB/s disk storage speeds.  We’re talking the ability to store 1,468,006.4 (one million, four hundred sixty eight thousand and six point four) megabytes every second!

It may come as no surprise to learn that this will earn Titan the title for world’s fastest storage.

So what kind of specs does the Titan supercomputer boast?  Well, lets just say I’m pretty sure you’re going to be somewhat disappointed with specs on consumer computers for the next thousand years or so after you read them.  On the upside, I don’t think anyone would want to bring Titan to class for notes or use it for a presentation at the workplace.

In total, Titan has a 299,008 core AMD Opteron driven processor, 710 terabytes of memory and post upgrade, it will feature a mind blowing 40 petabytes (42,949,672,960 megabytes) of storage space.

Ironically, as incredible as Titan is, it still isn’t epic enough to meet the demand of client projects as companies scramble to get their piece of the world’s most powerful supercomputer.

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory boasts that Titan’s epic storage space is the equivalent of 227,000 miles of stacked books, or the distance from Oak Ridge’s facility in Tennessee to the moon.
